AT-KABUL: At least 37 Daesh and eight civilian were killed in eastern Nangarhar province within past 24 hours, said officials Saturday.
“37Daesh fighters were killed and 32 others were wounded within past 24 hours clashes between Daesh and Afghan forces in Kot,” provincial spokesman Atullah Khogiani said.
He said that 10 people including two Afghan forces, three women and four children were also killed and 10 other people including three police were wounded in Kot clashes between Afghan forces and Daesh fighters.
Daesh fighters attacked over civilian houses and torched 23 houses all belonged to civilians, which imposed high financial loses to the residents of the area, he added.
He stated that after torching houses, Daesh fighters took with their self around 30 villagers including women and children.
He said that number of hostages rescued back by Afghan forces through operation shortly after the incident, but did not elaborate further in the aspect.
Afghan forces conducted air strike and involved in ground battle with Daesh within past 24 hours in Kot district, which successful repelled their attack in the district.
The incident came after, three days ago Ministry of Defense claimed that Daesh fighters are no more a serious threat for Afghan forces. Ministry of Defense Spokesman Dawlat Waziri on Thursday said that Daesh fighters seriously suppressed in different provinces particularly in Nangarhar province.
He said that hundreds of Daesh fighters were killed and wounded in Nangarhar, Helmand, Zabul, Ghazni and other part of the country. Now Daesh fighters are not a serious challenge for Afghan security forces across the country.
