39 Taliban killed in counter-terrorism operations

AT-KABUL: Thirty-nine Taliban fighters were killed and 29 others wounded in the counter-insurgency operations in the past 24 hours, security officials said Sunday.

“The Afghan National Army (ANA) with the collaboration of the Afghan National Police (ANP) and the National Directorate of Security (NDS) conducted the operations against insurgents in different areas of Kandahar, Helmand, Baghlan, Badghis and Urzgan provinces,” ministry of defense said on Sunday in a statement.

“In these operations, 39 rebels were killed and 29 others were injured.”

The statement added that 10 insurgents were also arrested during the operations and were handed over to judiciary organs for further investigation.

“Unfortunately, six army soldiers were martyred by the enemy’s firing during the operations,” said the statement.

The security forces also managed to discover and confiscate a large number of weapons and ammunition in the insurgents’ hideouts in different provinces, the statement mentioned.
