AT-KABUL: At least 40 Taliban insurgents were killed and 50 others injured in an operation lunched by security forces in western Farah province, local officials said Sunday.
Gen. Raz Mohammad Oriakhel, commander of the 207 Zafar Military Corps said the security forces have been lunching the operation since three weeks ago in the province.
“We have gained significant achievements in the operation, clearing several villages from the Taliban,” Oriakhel said, adding that the Taliban had suffered heavy casualties.
He said the operation has been lunched to completely remove the insurgents in the center and districts of Farah province.
Provincial Farah Mohammad Asif Nang ensured people that any attack against them would have a tough response by the security forces.
“It seems that Taliban are preparing to destabilize the situation in some parts of the country by the spring. But the security forces are thousand times better prepared to battle with Taliban insurgents.”
Nang added that five troops were killed in the operation, but civilian casualties were not reported.
