42 rebels killed in fresh ops

KABUL: At least 42 Taliban militants have been killed and 20 others wounded in multiple extensive military crackdowns carried out by the Afghan security forces across the country in the past 24 hours, security officials said Saturday.

Ministry of Defense in a statement said the Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) personal conducted joint operations against insurgents in different areas of Balkh, Urzgan, Ghazni, Nangarhar, Jawzjan, Kunduz, Helmand, Zabul and Baghlan provinces, in which 42 militants were killed and 20 others wounded.

Afghan forces arrested nine rebels and handed them over to the judicial organs for further inquiry.

Afghan National Defense and Security Forces shelled and bombed the enemies’ positions and sanctuaries by artilleries and air forces.

During these operations, 11 Taliban fighters were killed, four wounded and three others detained in Chamtal and Balkh districts of Balkh—seven militants killed and two others wounded in Chinarto district of Urzgan—seven insurgents killed and two others wounded in Ghazni—four Taliban red unit fighters killed, five others wounded and one with an AK-47 arrested in Shirzad district of Nangarhar—four rebels killed and three others wounded in Mangjik district of Jawzjan—three militants killed and two others injured in Gor Tepa area of Kunduz province.

Similarly, three militants were killed and five others captured in Nadali district of Helmand, two rebels killed and a stronghold of the enemy destroyed in Arghandab district of Zabul and one insurgent was killed and two others wounded in Doshi district of Baghlan province.

In past 24 hours, 11 planed clearing operations, and Special Forces operations conducted in different provinces; also, Air Forces conducted aerial operations supporting Afghan National Army, including 10 strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries.
