42 Taliban fighters killed in raids

KABUL: At least 42 Taliban insurgents were killed and one wounded during crackdown carried out by the Afghan security forces in different provinces over the past 24 hours.

Afghan defense and security forces supported by the army’s air force have conducted an operation against the enemies in the Dehrawod district of southern Uruzgan province, which as the result 15 Taliban rebels were killed, said a statement issued by Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Sunday.

The statement added that two strongholds of the militants with a vehicle and some weapons and ammunition were destroyed during the operation.

According to the statement, six militants were killed in another operation conducted by the security forces in the Arghandab district of Kandahar province also in the south and adjacent to Uruzgan.

The defense ministry statement stated that 10 tunnels and ditches which were used by the Taliban for hiding and terrorist activity were destroyed.

Some 47 rounds of mines, which were planted to target civilians and military members were discovered and defused by security forces, added statement.

Statement said that eight insurgents were killed and one injured during airstrike in western Farah province.

Also in an airstrike eight rebels including a commander of the Taliban named Haqdost were killed in Nahr-e-Saraj district of Helmand province, mentioned in the statement.

Similarly, five insurgents were killed during crackdowns carried out by the Afghan security forces in Shirzad and Hesarak districts of eastern Nangarhar province, noted statement.

On the other hand commando and intelligence forces in a joint operation succeeded to rescue four people from Taliban lock up in Grishk district of Helmand, underlined statement.
