KABUL: At least 44 Taliban insurgents were killed and eight others wounded in fresh military strings conducted by the Afghan security forces in central Ghazni and western Nimroz provinces during the past 24 hours, defense ministry said on Saturday.
The ministry in a statement said that Afghan air force carried out strikes on the militants’ gatherings in Khash Rod and Delaram district of southern Nimroz province, in which 22 insurgents were killed.
The statement said that some weapons and ammunitions of the enemy were also destroyed during strike.
Meanwhile, 22 insurgents were killed in raids supported by the Afghan security forces in Bazaar area of Qarabagh district of southern Ghazni province. According to the statement, eight militants were wounded in the operation.
The security forces cleared some areas of Taliban’s presence in the district, the statement added.
As the Afghan peace process is heading towards uncertainty, the government and Taliban have been escalating their offensives.
