4th annual EU anti-corruption conference today
AT-KABUL: Today Tuesday 24 April, the European Union (EU) anti-corruption campaign 2018 would be lunched at Presidential Palace with the main focus on the endemic corruption with its risk in development, also private sector and election, the EU said in a statement.
This would be 4th anti-corruption conference to be held at highest level with core aim to discuss the issue with high-ranking government officials, including with the President Ashraf Ghani.
“The EU Delegation anti-corruption campaign once again reinforced the attention on corruption in Afghanistan and advocated for a collective mobilization in response to this plight that adds to the many challenges the country is already facing. Over the last three weeks a number of stakeholders highlighted in a timely and credible manner the risks that corruption creates in three specific sectors: Development, Private Sector and Elections. The conference will address these three themes, discussing the impact of corruption and the possible remedies,” the statement added.
“The rampant climate of violence makes it even more deplorable that some individuals take advantage of their position to indulge in corrupt practices. Those who combat corruption need to be saluted and encouraged,” said the EU Ambassador to Afghanistan, Pierre Mayaudon.
According to the statement, President Ashraf Ghani, the European Union Ambassador Pierre Mayaudon and the US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction John Sopko will give the opening speeches at the conference.
