5 Iranian inmates in Afghanistan sent home

AT News Report-KABUL: Five Iranian inmates in Afghanistan jails were sent back on Monday to Iran after a transfer agreement was entered into by both states. Most of them had been convicted of drug-induced crimes.

The transfer of Iranian inmates was made at the Kabul airport, said an Iranian consulate authority in Kabul. Mohsen Rezaee was quoted by Iranian media outlets as declaring that 120 Afghan prisoners will be sent back to Afghanistan soon.

The agreement of exchanging inmates between Iran and Afghanistan was signed 12 years ago.

The agreement for a prisoner swap was signed 12 years ago between Afghanistan and Iran and has facilitated exchange and transfer of 620 Afghan prisoners from Iran and 53 Iranian inmates with Afghanistan jails.
