54 rebels killed in latest military raids

KABUL: The Afghan security forces have killed at least 54 militants while 31 others received injures in multiple extensive military crackdowns conducted across the country in the past 24 hours.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) in a statement said Sunday that the Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives conducted joint operations against insurgents in different areas of Nangarhar, Laghman, Kapisa, Ghazni, Paktia, Khost, Paktika, Kandahar, Urzgan, Badghis, Farah, Sar-e-Pul, Balkh, Takhar and Helmand provinces that left 54 insurgents dead and wounded 31 others.

Three militants were also detained during operation that handed them over to the judicial organs for further inquiry

Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) shelled and bombed the enemies’ positions and sanctuaries by artilleries and Air Forces.

Nine militants including Taliban shadow district chief for Chenarto district were killed and two hideouts with some weapons belonged to the enemy destroyed in Chenarto and center of Urzgan, while eight killed including Taliban shadow district governor for Darqad district, 11 others wounded and four stronghold of the enemy destroyed in Dasht-e-Qala district of Takhar, the statement added.

Moreover, eight militants killed, 12 others wounded in Muqor and Andar districts of Ghazni. Three others insurgent were arrested during operations.

Furthermore, security forces killed six terrorists in Shahwali Kot district of Kandahar, while five others killed and one local commander of the Taliban group wounded in Badpakh district of Laghman province.

Similarly, five Daesh fighters were killed and a hideout of the enemy destroyed in Khodiganai district of Nangarhar. “Four militants killed and seven others wounded in Sayad district of Sar-e-Pul, the same number killed and an ammunition cache destroyed in Marja and Sangeen district of Helmand province,” the statement said, adding four militants were also killed in Gomal district of Paktika province.

In past 24 hours, 18 planed clearing operations, and 82 Special Forces operations conducted in different provinces; also, Air Forces conducted 82 aerial operations supporting Afghan National Army including nine strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries.

The ANA also discovered and confiscated weapons and ammunition in the operations as well.
