6 people including rebel killed in Jawzjan

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: At least six people, including a rebel, have been killed in separate incidents in northwestern Jawzjan province, said an official on Saturday.

Three young civilians were killed by two Taliban motorcyclists in Kukuldash village of Faizabad district, the provincial police chief Col. Abdul Hafiz Khashi told a local news agency.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News that the militants escaped after killing the young men. Later the Taliban issued a statement on their website, claiming the three slain were Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel. However, a local resident Mohammad Ismail said the slain were local farmers but relatives of the ALP personnel.

In another incident in Aqcha district, an uprising commander, Murtaza along with his guard were killed by the Taliban insurgents, Col. Khashi added.

He said that a Taliban fighter was also killed in retaliatory attack.

In this incident Taliban claimed that the two uprising members were also serving as ALP personnel.

Jawzjan is one of the insecure provinces in the country. The first Vice President Gen. Dustom has conducted several large-scale operations to clear the province of the Taliban. The operations somehow succeeded but the Taliban came back and carry their attacks against civilians and the security personnel.
