67 inmates freed from Taliban lock up in Helmand

AT News Report-KABUL: Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Saturday said that 67 inmates were released from Taliban jail during an operation in southern Helmand province.

In a statement, the MoD said: “based on intelligence information the Uruzgan detachment and intelligence special forces conducted a joint operation in Baghran district of Helmand, which as a result 67 inmates included army and police were released from Taliban prison.”

The statement added that the inmates were held in two separate jails in the area, who were rescued.

In advance the all freed inmates were shifted to southern Uruzgan and 20 of them were transferred to Kandahar by the Afghan forces, added the statement.

The remaining 47 released inmates who are in Uruzgan would be shifted to Kandahar soon, underlined the statement.
