69 Taliban rebels killed in fresh raids

KABUL: At least 69 Taliban militants have been killed and 32 others wounded in multiple extensive military crackdowns carried out by the Afghan security forces across the country in the past 24 hours, security officials said Monday.

Ministry of Defense in a statement said the Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) personal conducted joint operations against insurgents in different areas of Kunduz, Takhar, Farah, Balkh, Helmand, Herat, Paktia, Kapisa, Kandahar, Khost and Badakhshan provinces, in which 69 militants were killed and 32 others wounded.

Afghan security forces also arrested three militants including a suspect and handed him over to the judicial organs for further inquiry.

Afghan National Defense and Security Forces shelled and bombed the enemies’ positions and sanctuaries by artilleries and air forces.

During these operations, 27 Taliban fighters were killed and two others wounded in Khanabad district of Kunduz—17 militants killed and six others wounded in Dasht-e-Qala district of Takhar—eight insurgents killed, one suspect arrested and eight stronghold of the enemy destroyed in Khak-e-Safid district of Farah—eight rebels killed and 10 others injured in Chamtal district of Balkh—six militants killed and another wounded in Sangeen district of Helmand—five rebels killed in Kishk, Gulran, Aoba and Pashtoon Zarghon district of Heart—five militants killed in Zurmat district of Paktia—three insurgents including Taliban’s district chief for Tagab district were killed in Kapisa province.

Similarly, four Taliban insurgents including a locality commander of the group were killed, three others wounded and six mines discovered and neutralized in Shah Walikot and center of Kandahar—one rebel was killed in central part of Khost—three insurgents were killed in Yamgan district of Badakhshan province.  

In past 24 hours, 20 planed clearing operations, and Special Forces operations conducted in different provinces; also, Air Forces conducted aerial operations supporting Afghan National Army, including 22 strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries.
