70 insurgents killed in fresh crackdowns

KABUL: At least 70 militants have been killed and 23 others wounded in multiple extensive military crackdowns conducted by the Afghan security forces in the past 24 hours, security officials said Monday.

The Ministry of Defense in a statement said the Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives conducted joint operations against insurgents in different areas of Kunar, Logar, Ghazni, Urzgan, Herat, Sar-e-Pul, Baghlan, Faryab, Kunduz and Helmand provinces that left 70 insurgents dead while 23 others severely injured.

The Afghan security forces also detained seven militants during operation and handed them over to judicial organs for further inquiry

Moreover, the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) shelled and bombed the enemies’ positions and sanctuaries by artilleries and air forces.

During these operations, 40 Taliban fighters were killed, seven wounded, one training center, two ammunition caches and three hideout of the enemy destroyed in Garmab, Qadam Nakroz, Hazaragai, Niachin, Sola Chaghar Manda villages in Khas Urzgan district and Trinkot center of Urzgan.

Two insurgents including Taliban shadow district chief for Sancharak and Taliban military In charge have been killed and seven others wounded in Sancharak district of Sar-e-Pul, while 16 rebels killed, one wounded and six others arrested in Qarabagh and Dehyak districts of Ghazni.

Moreover, in Qala-e-Zal district of Kunduz, at least nine militants killed and six others wounded.

Similarly, three insurgents killed, one wounded, 12 strongholds of the enemy destroyed in Sangeen district of Helmand. Another militant was killed another one wounded in Qaisar district of Faryab and one rebel with four rifles of weapons arrested in Manogai district of Kunar province.

In the past 24 hours, six planed clearing operations, and 79 Special Forces operations conducted in different provinces; also, Air Forces conducted 123 aerial operations supporting Afghan National Army including 11 strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries.

The ANA also discovered and confiscated weapons and ammunition during operations.
