73 insurgents killed in raids

AT-KABUL: At least 73 armed Taliban fighters were killed and 29 others were wounded in different crackdowns within past 24 hours.

In a press release issued here, Ministry of Defense (MoD) said that Afghan National Army  (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) has conducted clearance operations against insurgents in different areas of Paktia, Paktika, Ghazni, Maidan Wardak, Urzgan, Daykundi, Kandahar, Zabul, Helmand, Farah, Badakhshan, Faryab, Takhar and Logar provinces. In these operations 73 rebels were eliminated and 29 others injured.

One suspected militant was arrested and handed over to the relevant judicial body for interrogation. ANA recovered huge cache of ammunition in the operations as well, the ministry claimed.

Seven ANA soldiers were also killed due to landmine explosion and shelling in different provinces, the statement added.
