AT-KABUL: Ministry of Interior (MoI) said that this year the Taliban insurgents tried their best to destabilize the country while launching multiple terror attacks, but the attacks were repulsed by the Afghan security forces.
Spokesman for the ministry, Sidiq Sidiqi, told reporters on Tuesday that militants suffered heavy casualties in the one week.
He said that 50 militants were killed and 152 injured in the attacks that were repelled.
Sidiqi said that last night the Taliban insurgents attacked a police post in Chak district of Maidan Wardak province, but failed to seize control. At least12 insurgents were killed and 22 other wounded in the attack, he added.
Regarding offensives against anti-state elements in northern provinces of the country, he said that operations are underway against the insurgents in Baghlan and Kunduz provinces.
Speaking about counter-narcotics drives, he said that 165 suspected smugglers were arrested and over 1,300 kilogram illicit drugs were recovered from their possession. He also claimed of recovering 6,600 liters of liquor.
