8 insurgents killed in Ghazni

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: At least eight Taliban insurgents were killed after they attacked security post, which also cased security forces casualties, in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Saturday.

Police Chief, Brig. Gen. Aminullah Amarkhel, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Taliban attacked security check-posts in Ghazni City, Deh Yak, Ab Band, Waghaz, and Zankhan districts.

Eight insurgents were killed in the overnight gun battles, he said, adding that security forces were also received casualties, but restrained to give exact figures. The clashes had ended in all districts accept Waghaz, Amarkhel, he claimed.

An inhabitant of the locality, who did not want to be named, said severe clashes were ongoing in Waghaz, where the militants had captured a tank from security forces.

However, the Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed the fighters had overrun Waghaz district, with firefights ongoing in the provincial capital and Deh Yak.
