8 killed, 2 injured in Wardak

AT-KABUL: At least eight civilians were killed and two others injured in a mortar shell fired in Sayed Abad district of Wardak province, said officials on Friday.

According to the provincial officials the mortar hit the playground has left eight civilians killed and wounded two others. The dead bodies were shifted to the nearby hospital.

Secretary of the provincial council Sharifulla Hotak said that the gunfight between security forces and the Taliban militants erupted in Dankokai village in Sayed Abad district at around 10:00 am. He said the mortar shell was fired during the clash between the security forces and the Taliban militants.

The mortar hit the area near the mosque in the village, he added.

The Taliban militants have denied firing of the mortar shell. The provincial administration has launched investigation into the incident in order to find out who exactly fired the mortar.
