A child, woman among three killed in Ghor

AT-KABUL: At least three civilians were killed and eight others received injuries after their vehicle struck with a roadside bomb in the capital of western Ghor province, provincial official said on Monday.

The Police Crime Branch Chief, Abdul Hadi Chehel Ghori told Pajhwok Afghan News the overnight explosion happened when a vehicle heading from Herat to Ghor struck a roadside bomb in Bara Khana area near Ferozkoh.

“A woman, a child and the coaster driver were killed and eight others, including four children, three women and a man received injures in the blast,” he added.

Blaming insurgents for planting the bomb, he said that militants are using Improvised Explosive Device (IED) as significant weapons against security forces convoys. “But the device hit the civilian vehicle.”

Civil Hospital Director Dr. Juma Gul Yaqubi confirmed receiving three bodies and eight wounded people from the site. The condition of one of the injured is critical.

Civilians, especially, women and children are the worst victim of the roadside bombs in the country.

Recently, four member of the same family were killed and one another injured in a roadside in Shajoy district of southern Zabul province.

District Chief, Wazir Mohammad Jawadi, in that time said that the children were playing at the roadside when the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off. He blamed the Taliban for planting the IED to target security forces.

It is worth mentioning here that in February this year, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in its annual report recorded 11,002 civilian casualties including 3,545 deaths and 7,457 injured, the highest record since 2009. UNAMA finding showed that in 2015, UNAMA documented a 37 per cent increase in women’s casualties while the casualties of children had a 14 per cent increase.
