KABUL: Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullahis due to run for the July presidential election, said a source close to him.
The source who spoke on condition of anonymity, added thatthe chief executive had chosen EnayatullahBabur Farahmand and AsadullahSaadatias his running mates in the votes.
Farahmand is a senior member of the Jonbesh-e-Milli (National Movement)party led by first vice president Abdul Rashid Dostum. Saadati, a member of the Hezb-e-Wahdat-e-Islami (Islamic Unity Party) is also now a member of parliament.
Also, former deputy foreign minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai is planned to run alongside Abdullah as the future chief executive, a post established in 2014 after the United States brokered a political deal between Abdullah and the frontrunner of presidential election Ashraf Ghani to end a political turmoil.Based on the deal, Abdullah who was not ready to accept Ghani as election winner, agreed to be chief executive, an official similar to prime minister. The post is not mentioned in the constitution.
Abdullah and his team would go for registration on Sunday, according to the source.
