KABUL: Afghan Ambassador to Washington D.C. Roya Rahmani met the US special envoy for Afghanistan reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad, discussing the peace efforts in Afghanistan.

Afghan Embassy in the United States, said Saturday in a statement that the two diplomats also discussed the possibility of a review to the ongoing peace process and the condition of Afghan government.

Ms. Rahmani welcomed the appointment of Thomas West, another US diplomat as Khalilzad’s assistant on Afghanistan affairs, according to the statement.

This was the first time Khalilzad met Afghan officials since Joe Biden took office as president in the United States.

The Afghan and Taliban delegations restarted meetings on peace after a one-month long delay from the insurgent side who did not want to join negotiations without offering any justifiable reason in Qatar.
