KABUL: The government of Afghanistan on Sunday has temporarily blocked any travel to and from Iran to prevent the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
The decision has taking during special meeting of the National Security Council in Kabul, in which Afghan officials decided to temporarily block any travel through air and road to and from Iran to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Health officials in western Herat province had confirmed three suspicious cases of coronavirus in the province, saying that the blood symptoms have been sent to capital, Kabul for further diagnosing of the virus.
An official of the provincial hospital, Mohammad Ibrahim said these people had recently arrived from Iran.
Meanwhile, Noor Ahmad Mohammadi, head of the Islam Qala Medical Center – a border point between Herat and Iran – said that 36 people, who have recently arrived from Qom city – an Iranian state where the virus has been recently diagnosed – are quarantined under sever medical restriction in Ansar camp.
The concerns about the possible exists of coronavirus in Herat raison after the Iranian Media reported that 28 people have been suffering from the virus, in which six people have died so far.
The Ministry of Public Health has ordered in-charges to make serious restrains on the country’s borders and airports to prevent the spread of the contagious virus in Afghanistan.
Head of Badakhshan Public Health, Dr. Noor Khawari said that medical teams have been stationed in the borderlines with China and Tajikistan. “We have appointed medical teams in five spot of mutual border between Afghanistan and Tajikistan. The teams are working in coordination with the border police.”
The provincial health officials said the teams are provided with basic medical facilities and are working in cooperation with the World Health Organization and Agha Khan Donation Organization.
Corona has first discovered in Wuhan city of China. The Virus has so far affected thousands of people worldwide with claiming the life of over 2,000 people, mostly in China.
