KABUL: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Haneef Atmar met Sunday with Saeed bin Mubarak Al-Khayarin Al-Hajar, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Kabul, where they discussed issues related to the Afghan peace process.
At the outset, Mr. Atmar expressed his gratitude for the condolences of the Qatari government and the participation of Dr. Mutlaq Al-Qahtani, Special Envoy of the Foreign Minister of the State Qatar for Counter-terrorism and Mediation of Conflict Resolution, at the funeral of Abdul Hakim Dalili, the late Afghan Ambassador to Doha.
Mr. Atmar called the relations between Afghanistan and Qatar friendly and fraternal and praised Doha’s efforts regarding the start and continuation of talks between the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban, his office said in a statement.
Appreciating the late Dalili’s endeavors in expanding and strengthening relations between Kabul and Doha, the Qatari ambassador considered his death a great loss, emphasizing the continuation of his country’s cooperation in various fields with the government and people of Afghanistan.
The two sides also discussed the expansion of cooperation between Afghanistan and Qatar in the political, economic, health, and education arenas and collaboration on peace talks and other related issues.
At the end of the meeting, Mohammad bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Qatari ambassador to Kabul, handed over the message of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister of the State of Qatar, to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan.
