Afghanistan reels amid virus surge as daily cases near 2,000

KABUL: The Ministry of Public Health on Sunday recorded 1,927 new cases of coronavirus and 93 deaths across the country in the past 24 hours.

According to the ministry’s data, the new cases come positive out of 5,447 suspected samples tested in different laboratories in the same period of hours.

The total tally since the outbreak of the epidemic has reached 103,921 cases nationwide.

Another 526 patients have fully recovered from the virus and were discharged from the hospitals in the same period of time, the ministry added.

Afghanistan has so far recorded 4,215 deaths from the virus since the outbreak of the pandemic started one year ago.

According to Johns Hopkins University, the number of deaths from COVID-19 globally is more than 3,860,153 and the number of known global coronavirus cases is 178,202,071.
