Afghanistan to Pakistan: Don’t use refugees as leverage

AT News

KABUL: Afghan foreign ministry warns that the neighboring Pakistan should not use Afghan migrants as pressure tool.

More than two million Afghan migrants are living in Pakistan since the Soviet invasion of the country in 1980s. More Afghans fled to Pakistan when Afghanistan was burning in the civil war between mujahideen groups in early 1990s.

The ministry of foreign affairs said Monday in a statement that Afghanistan wants a dignified and continued repatriation of the migrants, adding that it works with Pakistan to pave the ground for a voluntarily repatriation.

Pakistan are Iran are hosting the most number of Afghan refugees with the latter hosting some three million, according to official reports.

Turkey and Central Asian countries follow Iran and Pakistan in hosting refugees from Afghanistan.
