Afghanistan wishes Sharif’s speedy recovery

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Afghan Ambassador to Islamabad Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal in a meeting with Pakistan prime minister’s advisor Sartaj Aziz, offered his best wishes for rapid recovery to prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who will undergo an open-heart surgery in London today (Tuesday), Afghan embassy in Pakistan said in media statement.

According to Sharif’s family and office, this is his second cardiac operation in five years. Sharif’s daughter, Maryam Nawaz Sharif said on her Twitter that the surgery would be for perforation of the heart, a complication from an earlier procedure in 2011.

Senior Afghan and Pakistani diplomats Zakhilwal and Aziz also held discussions on the past week’s important developments, the statement said.

Issues of bilateral interests, including the Afghan peace campaign following the death of Mullah Akhtar Mansour in the Naushki district of Balochistan province, figured at the meeting, an official told Pajhwok Afghan News.

After US drone strike killed Mansour in Pakistan on May 21, Aziz turned blamed finger on Washington and said that US adding a new complexity to the Afghan conflict. “We believe that this action has undermined the Afghan peace process,” he told newsmen.
