AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: At least 40 Taliban militants including their commanders were killed in an airstrike in the Imam Saheb district of northern Kunduz province, a spokesman for 20th Pamir Army Division, Ghulaam Hazrat Karimi said.
“Mustafa, the deputy designated governor and Asadullah Maszloomyar, district shadow governor of Taliban for Kunduz province were killed in the airstrike,” he said.
The airstrike took place after Taliban militants attacked a police check post in the district, he said, adding that two Afghan security forces were killed and four other received injuries in the attack.
The airstrike took place after Taliban insurgents have launched a series of armed attacks in insecure parts of Kunduz province aimed at capturing Qala-e-Zal and Dasht-e-Archi districts.
The security forces had inflicted heavy casualties on Taliban after the militant group launched serious attacks in these two districts of the province.
Officials at the ministry of defense said that security forces inflicted heavy causalities on Taliban fighters during attack.
In a press statement, the ministry of defense in that said that at least 30 insurgents were killed in the past 24 hours in Qala-e-Zal district.
