KABUL: Sayed Sadat Mansoor Naderi, the State Minister for Peace and the member of the Afghan Negotiating team, recently met with Ms. Sheherazade Hirji the Diplomatic Representative of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in Afghanistan. They discussed issues related to the Afghan peace and development.

Naderi spoke about the peace process in Afghanistan, according to a statement issued by his office.

Both sides also discussed the use of the Aga Khan Development Network activities and cultural innovations for inclusive public participation in the peace process.

The (AKDN) has started the initial works of the restoration of the fifth minaret in the western province of Herat. The samples of the minaret had been taken and would be sent to Italy for more research. An international group is planned to work on the project to strengthen the minaret with world standards.

The Herat minaret is in danger of collapse and the Aga Khan Development Network decided to save this from collapsing.

“The samples will be sent to Italy for testing of materials. An elite international team works on this,” Arash Bostani, AKDN’s project manager said at that time.

Separately, the ministry of information and culture says that they would start strengthening and repairing the fifth minaret after necessary research.

“We hope this minaret remains stable,” Abdul Ahad Abbasi, head of the provincial department of information and culture said.
