Kabul: At least 100 citizens of Afghanistan were killed or injured in the earthquakes in Turkey. An Afghan family has reportedly lost three members in these deadly earthquakes.
The Afghanistan Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ahmad Zia Takal, confirmed the deaths of Afghans in Turkey, telling local media outlets that Afghan citizens were not spared from earthquake dangers.
At least 100 Afghan citizens have been killed and injured in Turkey as a result of the recent earthquakes, according to Takal.
He said that the figures are based on the statistics of the Afghan Embassy in Turkey, and emphasized that the death toll may have been higher.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Bayarith, member of Afghan citizens associations living in Turkey called “Turkestan Illari”, told Salaam Watandar that he had sent a team to provide assistance to the city of Hatay, but due to the inactive telecommunication networks and the Internet, they have not been able to contact the Afghan citizens so far.
A deadly 7.8 magnitude earthquake devastated wide swaths of Turkey and Syria on Monday morning. These earthquakes reportedly killed more than 8,000 people in both countries, according to the latest data.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the interim government of Taliban has also announced of 10 million Afghanis aid to the earthquake victims in Turkey and 5 million Afghanis to the earthquake victims in Syria.
