KABUL: At least three people were killed and 15 others wounded in Spin Ghar district of tumultuous Nangarhar province after a bomb exploded at a mosque during Friday prayers, Taliban and witnesses said.

Doctors and Taliban officials have confirmed three people were killed and 15 others were injured in a bomb blast at the mosque in the Spin Ghar area in Nangarhar which has become a hotbed of activity for the militant Islamic State group, according to AFP.

Witnesses said the bomb was hidden in a loudspeaker used by the imam who leads the prayers. The bomb detonated at about 1:30pm local time when the speaker was switched on for call of prayers.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Islamic State in Khorasan Province, ISIS-K, had already claimed responsibility for a series of bloody attacks in Afghanistan since the Taliban’s return to power in August.

Early November, over 19 people were killed and more than 50 injured in a Daesh attack on a military hospital in Kabul.
