Blast kills 16 in Kandahar
By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: At least 16 people including four security personnel were killed and 38 others wounded in an explosion in southern Kandahar province on Tuesday afternoon, said provincial officials.
Blast in a big garage in 14th PD of Kandahar took place today at around 12:30pm, said Kandahar Governor Spokesman Dawod Ahmadi.
He said that according to report 16 killed and 38 wounded mostly civilians from the incident.
He said that four security forces are among killed people.
He said that nine children and six security forces are among wounded people.
He said that explosives and ammunition was hidden in two continuers in the garage, which went off.
Intelligence operatives discovered the report about the mentioned containers and stepped up to defuse the containers, but it blew up during neutralization, he added.
The first container was opened by the intelligence forces and they were engaged in opening the second, which blew up, he added.
He said that still it is not clear that the container went off during neutralization or it was exploded by a remote control.
He said that the explosives and ammunition was hidden by the enemy in the containers.
As the explosion was too heavy nearby houses located around the area also partly destroyed.
Kandahar Police Spokesman Zia-U-Rahman Durani while confirming the incident said that four security forces killed in the incident.
He said that explosive vests, ammunition and RPG rockets were inside the containers
Till now no armed groups claimed responsibility for the attack.
