KABUL: A car bombing killed a former Taliban police official Thursday in Badakhshan province during a memorial ceremony for a deputy governor who was killed in bombing two days earlier, officials said.

Some local sources have said the bomb happened inside Nabawi mosque where Taliban officials and local people attended the memorial ceremony, killing at least 13 people including Taliban’s former police chief of Baghlan, Safiullah Samim.

The blast has killed at least a dozen other people, sources say, as hundreds gathered for funeral ceremony of Badakhshan’s deputy governor Nisar Ahmad Ahmadi who died with his driver in a bombing on Tuesday in Faizabad city, according to provincial director of information and culture Moazuddin Ahmadi.

The Islamic State group had claimed responsibility for Tuesday´s car bombing that killed deputy governor and his driver. Ten people were also wounded in the blast.
