By Farhad Naibkhel-KabuL: The Taliban killed at least 12 members of security forces and wounded 28 others in a car bomb attack inside a military compound in Maidan Wardak province on Monday morning, officials said.
Five assailants who were clad as Special Forces attacked a military base in Maidan Wardak, according to provincial officials. The attackers rammed an armored vehicle into the compound’s gate and then opened fire on members of security forces.
Director of public health department in Maidan Wardak, Salem Asarkhil, confirmed that 12 soldiers were martyred and 28 others sustained injuries in the car bombing. The injured, Asarkhil said, have been evacuated to the hospital.
Provincial councilmember, Sardar Bakhtiar, said that a car bomb went off in front of Special Forces detachment in Maidan Wardak City at around 7:30 in the morning. Terrorists opened fire after they made their way into the compound.
The security detachment located in Sia Sang area near highway, which is around 2km far from the city of the province, he added.
Another Maidan Wardak provincial council member Sharifullah Hotak said, while confirming a car bomber over special forces unit compound in Maidan Wardak city near highway today, said that number of suicide bombers, after explosion struggled to storm inside the compound, but gun down by security forces. He said around fifty people mostly security forces were killed in the attack. He said clashes continued for four hours and security killed all the assailants.
Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, the group spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement.
