China Donates 400,000 Doses of Covid-19 Vaccines to Afghanistan

KABUL: China will donate 400,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine to Afghanistan, said the country’s envoy to Afghanistan.

Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan, Wang Yu on Sunday met with Dr. Wahid Majrooh, Acting Minister of Ministry of Public Health. “China will donate 400 thousands doses of vaccines to friendly Afghanistan. Chinese vaccines to numerous countries fulfills the Chinese commitment from President Xi Jinping about making the vaccine a global public good,” he said in a tweet.

He added that this vaccine has been approved for emergency use by more than 30 countries in Asian, African, Europe, Latin American, and etc… “These countries trust in the Chinese vaccine as its development is in strict compliance with international standards and relevant laws and regulations,” Mr. Ambassador tweeted.

Afghanistan on Sunday reported 19 new positive cases of COVID-19 out of 1,878 samples tested in the last 24 hours.    

45 patients have fully recovered and one other has lost his life to the virus in the same period of time, the ministry added in a statement.

The new cases were reported in Kabul, Herat, Kandahar, Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman and Khost  provinces.   

Afghanistan officially has 55,733, Covid-19 cases in the country and the total number of reported deaths is 2,444, while the total number of recoveries has reached 49,333.
