Committed to free, timely elections: Abdullah

AT-KABUL: The Chief Executive, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on Wednesday emphasized on role of the political parties, civil society and general masses for holding Wolesi Jirga, District Council and Presidency elections in per schedule.

Abdullah made this remark during his speech to a ceremony commemorating the 23rd death anniversary of Abdul Ali Mazari, held at the Presidential Palace.

Abdullah remembered the late Jihadi leader for his great vision, seeking equal enforcement of law across the country.

“We have learnt so many good things from our elders, such as Mazari. If our behavior is not like that of good rulers, we should confess to our failure to realize the wishes of martyrs,” the CEO said.

Speaking on the upcoming elections in the country the Chief Executive said, “We reaffirm our commitment to conduct Wolesi Jirga, District Councils and Presidential Elections on time.”

Abdullah highlighted the people’s aspirations and expectations, they have pinned with the Independent Election Commission (IEC) to precede its work independently and do not let interference of the government to influence the process, he added.

Abdullah further went on saying that the all the previous governments, including the current one have been supportive to hold free and fair elections on due time, adding required cooperation from the political parties, civil society and the general masses would be milestone in conducting the electoral process across the country.
