Covid-19 cases, deaths see a sharp rise in Afghanistan

KABUL: Afghanistan has recorded 628 new cases of coronavirus and 24 deaths in the last 24 hours, the health ministry said Monday, revealing a significant surge in the past one week in a row across the country.

Another 24 patients have lost their lives to the virus during the same period of time, the ministry said in a statement.

The total tally since the outbreak of the epidemic has reached 66,903 cases around the country.

The new cases come positive out of 2,647 suspected samples in the past 24 hours.

Another 260 patients have fully recovered during these hours and discharged from the hospital.

The total recoveries exceeded to 56,295 and the deaths to 2,836 in the country since the outbreak of the pandemic started one year ago.

According to Johns Hopkins University, the number of deaths from COVID-19 globally is more than 3,463,996 and the number of known global coronavirus cases is 3,463,996.
