COVID-19 surges rapidly; 1,045 new cases, 33 deaths in 24 hours

KABUL: Afghanistan on Tuesday announced 1,045 new cases of coronavirus with 33 deaths across the country in the past 24 hours, the health ministry said.The new cases reported positive out of 3,614 suspected samples tested in different laboratories nationwide during the same period of time.33 patients have lost their battle to the virus, bringing the total tally of deaths to 3,007 since the outbreak of the virus started over one year ago.The total tally since the outbreak of the epidemic has reached 74,026 cases across the country.Another 112 patients have fully recovered and been discharged from hospital in the past 24 hours.Positive cases of coronavirus are rapidly increasing on a daily basis and on Monday 1,566 people were affected with the virus and another 30 patients lost their lives.Recently, the minister of public health, Wahid Majrooh inaugurated a 100-bed hospital provided with COVID-19 facilities and equipment in PD15 of Kabul city.To contain the wild spread of the virus, the government announced closures of schools, universities and other educational institutions for two weeks.
