Cricket stadium in Kandahar opens

AT-KABUL: A cricket stadium with international standards was opened Monday in Kandahar province. Indian government has financed the project.

The inauguration of the stadium took place with the presence of the provincial officials, Indian ambassador to Kabul and a large number of the businessmen and cricket fans.

Kandahar provincial governor, Zalmai Weesa thanked India for helping cricketers to have a standard stadium.

“Now, our cricketers will be trained better and we will see more developments in the field of cricket,” Weesa said.

Indian ambassador, Manpreet Vohra congratulated Afghans for the opening of the new stadium, promising further cooperation from his country with the Afghan cricket. He added that a gym and a guesthouse would be built soon close to the cricket stadium.

The ambassador praised Afghan cricket’s achievements, saying that the Afghan national cricketers would soon hold a friendly match with the Indian national cricket team.

Vohra vowed that New Delhi would build two more cricket stadiums in Afghanistan.

Other provincial officials also appreciated India for building the stadium.

The building of the stadium cost 698,000 US dollars that completed in 16 months.
