DABS discloses defaulters’ list

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) disclosed names of hundreds of its customers who have allegedly defaulted on electricity bills. Different government organizations including the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) with Afs37 million and various organs of the Ministry of Interior in Kabul with Afs20 million dues are also in the list.

Based on a presidential decree, the DABS has set a deadline for the defaulters to pay their electricity bills. However, some strongmen are still to pay the arrears, said the power utility.

Head of the DABS, Mirwais Alemi, said that they have kick started a process to cut off power connections of costumers failing to pay their bills. “In the first stage we are cutting off power connection of the defaulters and if failed to pay their bills, they will be also introduced to judicial organizations,” he added.

According to the list sent to media, the defaulters include government institutions, current and former officials and a number of media outlets.

Maulvi Abdul Rahman Rahmani, a lawmaker, told Azadi Radio that if the government failed to collect the unpaid dues from strongmen, then general messes will reject 10 percent tax on mobile phones.
