AT-KABUL: The northern district of Dahan-e-Ghori fell to Taliban Sunday night after days of, local official confirmed Monday.
“Tens of Taliban attacked the district from neighboring provinces around one week ago and after days siege, the district fell to them last night,” Mahmoud Haqmal, spokesman for Baghlan province, where the district lies.
He said that the security forces retreated “tactically” from the district, but now are preparaing to recapture the district.
He also said that any contacts with the center of the district had been cut.
He said that Taliban also attacked on the Baghlan-e-Markazi district three days ago but have not yet captured it.
Taliban’s insurgency spreads from their traditionally strongholds in the south and eastern provinces to once calm regions in the north.
The group has increased attacks on different districts in Nooristan, Helmand and Baghlan provinces recently.
A number of districts in these provinces are under their control and Afghan forces are struggling to retake them.
