Dawood Ibrahim moved to Afghanistan-Pakistan border, says Indian Home Ministry

On May 11, Home Minister Rajnath Singh had informed Parliament that a Red Corner Notice was in existence against Dawood, accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts.

New Delhi: India has identified at least five or six locations in Pakistan of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, and the latest intelligence inputs suggest that he was shifted somewhere near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border about a fortnight ago, said a top official in the Home Ministry.

“He was in the port city of Karachi about 15 days ago, but has since been shifted to the Af-Pak region. There are at least five-six locations that we have identified, where he is shifted on a regular basis with the help of Pakistan authorities. He is never kept at one location for more than a month,” said the official.

He added that Dawood also travelled frequently outside Pakistan, especially to Central Asian countries. India handed over Dawood’s details, including that of his Pakistani passports and his reported addresses, to Pakistan in 2012. While Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar visited Pakistan as part of his SAARC yatra earlier, the issue of terrorism or Dawood was not raised. The locations that India listed have been corroborated with the information provided by the US and other foreign intelligence agencies. On May 11, Home Minister Rajnath Singh had informed Parliament that a Red Corner Notice was in existence against Dawood, accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts, and “despite overwhelming documentary and other evidence handed over to Pakistan, it has failed to locate him and initiate legal process.” “Pakistan is under obligation to locate a person against whom a Red Corner Notice has been issued to enable the requisitioning country to start extradition/ deportation or any other legal process… India continues to pressure Pakistan at all levels to fulfil its international obligations and locate Dawood and other terrorists and hand them over to India,” Singh told Parliament.
