Dozens of rebels killed in fresh crackdowns

KABUL: At least 75 militants have been killed and 20 others wounded in multiple extensive military crackdowns conducted by the Afghan security forces across the country in the past 24 hours, security officials said Sunday.

The Ministry of Defense in a statement said that Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives conducted joint operations against insurgents in different areas of Nangarhar, Kapisa, Parwan, Ghazni, Kandahar, Urzgan, Badghis, Farah, Balkh, Jawzjan, Takhar and Helmand provinces, in which 75 insurgents were killed and 20 others received injuries.

Moreover, they arrested two suspects and handed them over to the judicial organs for further inquiry.

The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) shelled and bombed the enemies’ positions and sanctuaries by artilleries and air forces.

During these operations, 24 Taliban fighters killed, nine others wounded and a hideout of the enemy destroyed in Trinkot center of Urzgan—22 militants including a local commander were killed, eight wounded and two vehicle with some weapons destroyed in Andar, Abband, Qarabagh, and center of Ghazni—12 insurgents killed in Maroof district of Kandahar– six rebels killed, one wounded and two others arrested in Wahir, Nahr-e-Saraj, Sangeen and Garmsir districts of Helmand.

Similarly, four militants killed in Khwaja Bahwdin district of Takhar, three rebels killed and two wounded in center of Farah, three terrorist killed in Charkh district of Logar and two Daesh affiliates killed in Khogianai district of Nangarhar province. 

In past 24 hours, 16 planed clearing operations, and 80 Special Forces operations conducted in different provinces; also, Air Forces conducted 113 aerial operations supporting Afghan National army including 15 strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries.

The ANA also discovered and confiscated weapons and ammunition in the operations as well.
