Drone strikes in Nangarhar kill 12 new rebel group members

JALALABAD: At least 12 militants have been killed in fresh US drone attacks in eastern Nangarhar province, bordering Pakistan’s lawless tribal region of Khyber, an official said on Thursday.

Ahmad Zia Abudlzai, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the unmanned aircraft attack struck the rebels of a new group on Wednesday evening in Haska Mina and Pachiragam districts.

Civilians, he said, remained unhurt in the attacks near the militancy-plagued Durand Line. However, he did not name the outfit. Daesh fighters have recently escalated activities in southern and eastern parts of the country.

It is difficult to confirm the incident from independent sources due to the absence of communication facilities in the area. No rebel group has commented yet on the attacks. (PAN)
