Dubai-expo a productive showcase: $9m pacts inked for fruit, saffron

AT News Report-KABUL:  Afghan officials termed the Dubai exhibition as a great display in which Afghanistan secured contracts over nine million dollars—proving a productive showcase for the Afghan traders.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock on Saturday informed of extra-ordinary performances of Afghan traders in Dubai agriculture expo, where contracts of million dollars for dry fruits signed, including $1.2 million for purchase of Afghan saffron by Saudi traders.

“Afghanistan was able to secure contacts worth more than nine million dollars and there was a possibility the demand for dry fruits and agriculture might increase,” a statement from the ministry quoted an official, Akbar Rustami, as saying.

Cultivation of saffron and intensification in its production has significantly improved, the statement added, saying, market for saffron at the global exhibitions could amplify its export. It is also known as red gold, and Afghanistan producing number one saffron comparing to the world.

Since 2011, Afghanistan with support of USAID is taking part in the Dubai exhibition with brilliant upshot all the time.
