KABUL: At least eight Afghan security force members have been killed and six others were wounded in a Taliban attack on their check post in northern Balkh province, officials said on Sunday.
The Taliban rebels on Saturday night attacked Afghan security post in Turkmania village of Nahr-e-Shahi district of the province, provincial police spokesman, Adel Shah Adel told Afghanistan Times.
Five Taliban insurgents were also killed and seven others were wounded in the counterattack of the Afghan security forces, he added.
“My brother has been martyred. Three people have been wounded. Other bodies are not available. Two of the 16 people were wounded, the others were killed. The reinforcements arrived at 7 am after the base fell (to the militants),” Nematullah, a police officer in Balkh was quoted by TOLONews as saying.
Those who were killed were between 22 and 48 years old, according to relatives.
Bashir Khanjar, 22, who was killed in the attack, was married a year ago, the source added.
“He went to the base two days ago,” said Abdul Shakoor, Bashir’s cousin.
This is as seven more Afghan security forces were killed in another Taliban attack in Chimtal district of the same province.
