Etisalat donates cash aid for flood victims in Logar

AT News

Kabul: Etisalat Afghanistan today announced it has distributed cash donations to victims of recent floods in Logar province. A wave of devastating flash floods hit and destroyed parts of Logar’s Khwakhay district in late August, killing at least 20 people.

Etisalat sent a team to the affected areas and delivered cash donations to 200 families. Speaking at a ceremony held on the occasion, district deputy governor, Salahudin, said hundreds of people lost everything in the floods including their livestock and farms.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident and send our heartfelt condolences to the affected people in Khoshi district and across Afghanistan,” said Etisalat Afghanistan CEO, Mohamed Osman, in a message read out during the ceremony.

Afghanistan like several other regions has been plummeted by heavy floods and landslides during this summer, leaving thousands displaced. Logar, Kunar, Laghman, Wardak, Nangarhar, Paktia, Nuristan, and Parwan, says UN, have been hit hardest.

UAE-headquartered Etisalat telecommunications has become the fastest-growing telecommunications service provider in Afghanistan with an active base of 7 million subscribers. The company has invested $400 million in Afghanistan since 2007 and is the first telecom company to launch 3.75G services.
