Minister Rabbani, besides thanking the regional countries for their support, counted the regional cooperation as significant and deemed Afghanistan as a regional hub. ‘Regional cooperation results in stability and economic growth,” Rabbani was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the foreign ministry.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Cooperation Ms. Adela Raz also recalled the achievements under the regional cooperation framework in 2018 in various sectors, namely TAPI in Energy and Chabahar and Lapis Lazuli Route in Transportation Sectors.

It is worth mentioning that the Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA) was established in 2005 engaged in sectors such as energy, transportation, trade and transit facilitation, connectivity, expansion of cooperation among the member countries’ private sector, and dispatching laborers.

The Center’s establishment was proposed during the RECCA-VII Ministerial Meeting in November 2017 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and thereby approved. The center aims to develop the research capacity, expand the project-based cooperation, assist in policy development, and grow investments in the regional level, the statement added.

The 8th Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan Ministerial Meeting (RECCA-VIII) is due to be held in Tashkent hosted by Uzbekistan in the second half of 2019.
