AT-KABUL: At least five Taliban militants have been killed in military offensive in northern Parwan province, said a local security official.
Sakhidad Keftan, a commander of the 201st Selab Military Corps, said that Afghan security forces have launched a large-scale military operation against militants in Ghorband district of the Parwan. He said that the clearance operation was conducted three days ago and is still going on. He added that five Taliban militants have been killed in the operation so far.
Keftan said that the operation was aimed at ensuring security of Kabul-Bamiyan highway.
He added that security forces have cleared several villages of the Taliban insurgents. He said that there were no casualties to Afghan security forces in the clashes.
The operation comes at a time that Bamiyan province was on Friday formally announced as the cultural capital of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) for the 2015.
