Gen. Ludin nominated as defense minister

AT-KABUL: President, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, on Monday nominated Brig. Gen. Mohammad Afzal Ludin as defense minister, presidential spokesman said.

Mohammad Ajmal Abidy said that Ludin would be introduced to parliament for vote of confidence soon.

Government has already sent list of 16 nominees to Lower House of the parliament for vote of confidence. Officials in Lower House say that it will start hearing agendas and plans of the nominees by Tuesday before the voting process. No exact date has been fixed for the voting process yet.

However, as a military professional, General Ludin has in the past worked in different capacities at the ministry of Defense and more recently as Military Advisor to the Office of the National Security Council, presidential palace said in a statement.
