Ghani, Abdullah register for presidential polls

KABUL: The incumbent President Ashraf Ghani and his Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah’s most likely bids for Afghanistan’s presidency took a big step forward Sunday with the formal registration of their candidacy. Ghani and Abdullah registered their tickets on Sunday in the election commission compound to run in upcoming presidential elections.

Dr. Abdullah registered his ticket with his running mates including Enayatullah Farahmand as first vice president and Asadullah Sadati as his second. Farahmand is from Junbish Party and Asadullah Sadati is from Wahdat party.

President Ghani during registration said that the time of illegality and compromise has been ended. He said that our team is a government making team, because only a powerful government will have the ability to cope with crises. He said that we are willing to establish a powerful government with powerful institution. “We have the willing to end public executions and every individual must be ensured that each case will follow through justice”.

Regarding election I support the demand of political parties, observer organization and people that brining reform is a must in the electoral bodies, he added. He said that I hope the election result announce in one day. He called on nation to participate actively and largely in presidential election.

Responding to a question, President said that we will never accept interim government, adding that Afghanistan is not the gift of someone else, which it was given to us; we earned Afghanistan with our blood and will protect it with our blood.

Hinting to peace, president said that our aim is peace, so the Taliban have two options, if they want to be the representative of Pakistan, other neighboring or represent from their own.

If want to be representative of Pakistan, then we will talk with Pakistan, but if they come as Afghan, they will come with respect, he noted. He urged to stop foreign interference and accept Afghans. He also urged security forces to protect all candidates.

While appreciating international community for supporting, he said that our interest with international community is based on joint interest not due to dependency.

Meanwhile CEO Dr. Abdullah Abdullah during registration during registration said that we support people demands regarding reforms in election commission. He said that our commitment is that we will act based on law during competition. He said that after success we are planning to create Chief Executive Post through brining changes in constitution.

It is pertained to mention that so far 14 candidates were registered their self for presidential election, where beside President Ghani and CEO Abdullah, Ex- National Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar, Former NDS Chief Nabil, Hezb-e-Islami Afghanistan Leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar have registered their names as candidates for presidential election.
