Gone renegade: Public uprising commander, 10 members join Taliban in Faryab

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: A public uprising commander along with his fighters joined the Taliban militants in northern Faryab province, said a local official.

Sayed Aqa Andarabi, the provincial police chief, said that Gul Murad, a commander of the public uprising, along with his 10 fighters surrendered to the Taliban. The commander was fighting against the Taliban militants in Pashtun Kot district of the province.

“After that the Taliban militants attacked Gul Murad’s area last week, the public uprising commander surrendered to the insurgent group,” he added.

This comes at a time that 65 Afghan troops surrendered to the Taliban in Sangin district of Helmand province on Friday night.

According to reports, the troops have also handed over their weapons to the militants.
